History of the World through Shoes

About This Project

This project is a loose exploration of history by way of “A History of the World Through Shoes.” Humor and imagination are my vehicles for time travel, and I reimagine shoe styles from different times and places. By no means methodical or scholarly, my study knows no boundaries. For me, a foam flip-flop is as compelling as a Venetian Chopine. Shoes are apt metaphors for human experience. While I can physically navigate life in my well-worn Keens, there are days I’m tripping over my own laces, rolling through life on Life Saver heels, or putting myself on an immobilizing pedestal by way of Venetian Chopines. I invite my audience reflect on their mode of transport as they view my shoes.
